Dear Members ,
You all know how important we believe the groyne is to the sustainability of the Harbour as a working and recreational port. The initiative led by BHUG has stalled whilst the Harbour Authority put progress in limbo. BHUG have recently responded to this limbo as set out in this link. Like BHUG, we hope the directors of the Statutory Harbour Authority will see the reasoned case which BHUG put forward and finally get things moving. We also agree that the valuable service Bennetts used to deliver must somehow be replaced.
Meanwhile the staff on the dredging team work hard within the physical and practical limits of the kit, weather and tides in the entrance channel .Today the barge took its 35th load out into a brisk force 6 gusting 7 this morning and is now safely back in its berth. Their hard work has removed around 6,000 cubic meters of silts so far as they battle with the huge task of restoring depths in the Harbour.
